If you’re familiar with The Catholic Gift Shop, you know that we have a ton of patron saint medals! If they’re a patron saint of the Catholic Church, we likely have a medallion bearing their image. We do our very best to stay up to date on all/any patron saint medals Catholics desire. We recently read a post by Jennifer of Catholic Inspired that we thought was super cool! Jennifer has thought of some great alternative ways to make use of patron saint medals. As Jennifer put it:
“I love saint medals! I kinda have a collection. Funny thing is, I always wear the same medal around my neck -24-7. My mother gave it to me when I was about 8 and I’ve worn it since. The rest of my medals are in a box packed away. But I decided it’s time to make use of some of them…”
What a tremendous idea that was! Below we’re going to list a few of Jennifer’s great ideas along with some of our own. We’ll link over to Catholic Inspired at the bottom of the post, so make sure to check out Jennifer’s entire list. She was the one with this excellent idea after all. She also provides great visual examples for several of these.
Ways to Decorate with Patron Saint Medals
– Create patron saint zippers
This was one of our favorites from the Catholic Inspired post. Jennifer suggested using patron saint medals as a zipper on a purse, coat, or jacket. We could see these on a gym bag, wallet, or backpack. Do your kids use pencil cases at school? Maybe an inexpensive patron saint medal from our sale section would look cool on there? Just a thought.
– Create patron saint keychains
Admittedly, we do sell patron saint key rings here at The Catholic Gift Shop. However, we might not have your favorite patron saint. Take matters into your own hands and create your own patron saint keychain. Maybe if you use a St. Anthony medal you’ll be able to find the keys better?
– Create a patron saint bookmark
This one is super creative and we love it! You need two patron saint medals and a ribbon. Perfect to mark the page when you’re done with your daily Bible reading or any other book you’re currently into. Kids can use this for their religion or CCD book. No matter what you’re marking the pages of, it’ll remind you of God’s love for you.
– Create a patron saint medal animal collar
Do you have a cat or dog? Any animal that wears a collar can potentially have their own patron saint medal collar. Saint Roch would be a great one for a dog. Saint Gertrude would be a great one for a cat. You could also go with St. Francis for any animal! Maybe your pet was named after a favorite saint? We think these would all be really fun ways to add a little Catholic flair to your pet’s life.
– Create your own custom patron saint rosary
This one takes a little skill, but is absolutely doable! If you haven’t created your own rosary before, we recommend some research or expert guidance. You can make a rosary more personal by attaching your favorite patron saint’s medallion as the centerpiece.
– Create your own custom patron saint bracelet
This is another one that might take a bit of jewelry-making skill. You’ve probably seen a charm type bracelet before right? Pandora has a popular one. Why not do the same thing with all your favorite Catholic patron saints? We found an image that we’ll share below to illustrate what we mean. A plain bracelet would do just fine for this. Throughout the years, you can add new saints to your collection and continue wearing all of them. We thought this was a neat idea. Instead of having to wear one patron saint medal at a time, honor all your favorites and wear them on your wrist!
As you can see, there are a ton of ways to decorate with patron saint medals. You can get super creative with all of these ideas and even expand upon them with your own thoughts.
