If you’re like us, then you love thinking about travel plans. Who doesn’t really? It’s fun and it lets you dream a little bit about place you’d really enjoy visiting. We know a lot of people plan trips where they visit museums, stadiums, beaches, golf courses, etc. Have you ever considered a trip where you visit churches? We think this would be really cool!
There are plenty of amazing churches right here in the US. We believe that every single church is beautiful because the Body of Christ is received there. However, there are some exceptionally cool looking and gorgeous churches out there. These things are true, architectural masterpieces. Think about it, you could visit these churches to see the beautiful physical features they have and also stick around for Mass. That sounds pretty appealing to us!
We found a post on Catholic Vote where they shared 12 of the most beautiful churches in America. You can check it out here: http://www.catholicvote.org/the-12-most-beautiful-churches-in-america/
We also found a similar post on the Catholic World Report with 11 churches not to miss in Chicago. You can check that out here: http://www.catholicworldreport.com/Item/1493/eleven_churches_not_to_miss_when_you_visit_chicago.aspx
And last, but certainly not least, we found a list of 10 stunning Roman Catholic Basilicas. You can check them out here: http://listverse.com/2009/05/22/top-10-most-stunning-roman-catholic-basilicas/
We figured we’d share our favorites from those three lists below:
This is the Cathedral of St. Paul found in St. Paul Minnesota. Also known as the National Shrine of the Apostle Paul.
This is the Basilica Baltimore or the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was the first major Roman Catholic cathedral to be built in the US, so not only does it have some history, but it’s also beautiful.
This is St. Mary of the Angels Church in Chicago, IL. A beautiful church that features lovely statues of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Therese of Lisieux inside.
Check out the posts linked to above and look at all the other awesome churches and basilicas here in the US. Maybe you can start planning a trip? We certainly would love to take one to any of these churches.
